What if the Green Room idea for Serviced Offices could be more sculpted towards Design and Technology?
There is the Kotahi movement towards getting a common front of HB companies to present to the rest of the world but I was particularly interested myself in having a base somewhere to develop a Technology/Design centre. Hawkes Bay would lend itself perfectly for it!
This could be done by setting up a space somewhere that acts as a Serviced Office environment where the companies that are compatible with each other are carefully selected to occupy the space. By selecting the companies carefully you would have an assembly of companies that have synergies with each other that drive the bigger good towards where you want it to develop. Ie. if you select Design led and Technology companies you will by default end up with a Technology/ Design centre whereby customers have everything that they need for their design in one place.
For instance: Axia have amazing design capabilities in house and they have the only 3D printer in the Bay! Hook these guys up with some other like minded companies (Web developer, Graphics/ Concepts Company, Laser cutting Company, Paper print company, some accountant using Xero, a reseller of WorkflowMax for project management etc etc), put them in a space somewhere (Ahuriri for example), let it boil a little bit and see what amazing projects they as a group would attract to the HB!
Does that make sense? Is there anyone that thinks that there is some practicality in this? The government in the new budget are going to hand out more towards R&D so why not use it right here in the Bay?

Paul I am a strong advocate of the Green Room idea. BTW Axia have some amazing capability – I have referred clients to them on a couple of industrial design projects with fantastic results.
