GPS (Global Positioning Systems) are changing the way surveyors work around the world.  A lot of rural surveys are now done using survey accurate GPS equipment instead of traditional measurements of bearings and distances.

As with all technology, GPS is constantly changing and the latest iBASE technology is now available in the Hawkes Bay. Connecting to the iBASE receiver will enable surveyors to find old survey marks and property boundaries faster, easily locate services for easement plans or confirm minimum floor levels to satisfy Council conditions.

The Hastings iBASE station is located in central Hastings and has a possible 100km radius, covering the Heretaunga plains.  It collects satellite signals and computes corrections, which are then available to a surveyor with a roving receiver via a mobile phone connection to give an accurate position. For surveys more remote than this our company has the ability to set up its own portable base station to substitute.

iBASE eliminates the need for surveyors to set up their own base station on site for each job, making field work faster and more efficient.  It also removes the risk of leaving expensive surveying equipment in a remote location away from where the surveyor is working.

Surveying technology has come a long way in a short time as most boundaries in rural areas were originally set out with a wire chain and an angle measuring theodolite. With electronic technology in combination with GPS and blue tooth developments, time and cost has been severely reduced.
