How’s that XT network working for you?

By Rod Drury, September 3rd, 2009

What do you think of new Telecom XT network?

Today I was in a cab between Auckland Airport and the City and my Vodafone dropped out 5 times both ways. It's been really bad for the last 6 months and is driving me nuts.

Here are the Telecom coverage maps and most areas look pretty good.

Tukituki

I tested an XT phone 6 weeks ago and found it was great around town and better than Vodafone through the Tukituki, but worse at Waimarama.

Waimarama is pretty patchy as you can see ...

Waimarama

What are your experiences? Would you recommend changing to XT?

  1. The XT network is CRAP!! It drops out all the time. Just yesterday it dropped out along Marine Parade!!! I want to go back to my old Telecom network, it was sooooooooooo much better.

  2. Telecom has missed the bus again – vodafone proved that you didnt have to have a great network to gain a dominant market share – Telecom has invested in the wrong place. As 2 Degrees enters the market – price will be the driving force not an ad campaign by a racing car driver that no-one knows telling us that its faster and flasher…

  3. Is that a spot of coverage on Bare Island I see?

  4. We’ve heard that the data side of the house is pretty quick.

  5. My experience of XT Network back in July http://www.clad.co.nz/telecom-s-new-xt-network/

It’s a bit better now. I don’t have to step outside all the time in order to stay connected but it’s still very touchy in that way. I find web browsing to be mostly ok. Sometimes it just drops out for a minute or two then comes back again. Annoying but usable.

But then I don’t live on my phone in the way some others do.
