We have an opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer who has mastered the server and virtualisation space, so is ready to take the next step in their IT engineering career.  You will have an extensive   all-round knowledge of IT solutions, first rate problem resolution abilities, along with ability to build great customer relationships through superior communication skills.  You'll feel very comfortable in a presales consultancy situation and have project management capabilities   All this while still finding time to enjoy the fine weather, outdoors and great lifestyle that is the Hawkes Bay.

Day to Day you’ll provide all levels of pre and post sales IT support, systems administration, server engineering and implementation services to a range of business clients with a huge variety of IT infrastructures. By exceeding customer expectations, you'll develop a key role in their organisation and become the customer’s trusted IT advisor.  Showcase your excellent judgement and problem solving abilities managing particularly tricky client issues as needed.

You'll possess strong inter-personal skills, and be proactive and energetic whilst taking ownership of issues.  You’ll enjoy sharing knowledge to benefit the wider team as well as mentoring other Engineers. You'll have an area of expertise in Microsoft Exchange, SANS, VMware or Citrix, or a combination of all of them. Couple this with an industry qualification i.e. MCSE, CCEA, CCNA and you'll be on your way.

 Introduction to SQL 2008 New Features

SQL Server 2008 delivers on Microsoft’s Data Platform vision by helping your organization manage any data, any place, any time.
This new release builds on the great platform laid with SQL Server 2005, enhancing it with great new capabilities such as native support for spatial data, database encryption and compression and enhanced manageability through Policy Based Management, Powershell and the Resource Governor as well as many new great enhancements for Analysis Services and Reporting Services.

What not everybody here in Hawke’s Bay may know that for some years now several other ICT groups have been active in the Bay:

• The Hawke’s Bay sub-branch of the New Zealand Computer Society (chaired by Jane Beale)
• The Hawke’s Bay .NET User Group (chaired by yours truly)
• The Hawke’s Bay SharePoint User Group (chaired by Shane Redlick from Cucumber Software)

I will leave it to Jane and Shane to talk about their groups. The Hawke’s Bay .NET User Group (DNUG) is part of a large number of User Groups around Microsoft technology. Currently there are 27 User Groups in the country around technologies like .NET website and software development, SharePoint, SQL Server but also some more specific technologies like Silverlight, Microsoft Dynamics, Visual Studio Team System and Business Intelligence. We are mostly a software developer oriented user group, but presentations often have are about an introduction to new technology and as such are potentially interesting as well for decision makers in the IT departments.

We meet around 6 – 8 times per year, normally on a Thursday afternoon, 3:30 or 4:00pm, with EIT as our venue. I have just had our next meeting confirmed for 26 November. We have Jeremy Boyd, one of the two Regional Directors of Microsoft in New Zealand presenting for us on new features in SQL Server 2008, 3:30pm at EIT. I will blog separately about this event soon.
