Bay businesses need strong strategy to succeed in China

Businesses looking to secure business in China must have a strong strategy before making the trip according to a report in the latest issue of The Profit - Hawke's Bay's business magazine.

The Profit interviewed Hawke's Bay man Jim Poppelwell, who recently returned from a six year stint with a market and research consultancy in Shanghai.

Mr Poppelwell said because the market is so large that a product that appeals to a small niche market can be very successful.

"If their strategy takes this into account and marketing is targeted at the right people it could have great success.

A group of Hawke's Bay businesses and organisations led by Venture Hawke's Bay Bay are heading to Shanghai in mid August.

Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule is also attending.

Each day there will be a specific business sector focus including tourism, wine and food, specialised manufacturing, education and primary sector.
