Sonny Bill Williams

By Damon, June 21st, 2010

Wouldn't it be great if the mighty magpies Sonny Bill Williams. In the Sunday Star Times yesterday it reported HB was in the running thanks for financial support from IMS Payroll and Kevin Atkinson. Let's hope the rumour is true! Would be great to have the big rig in the backline!

  1. OMG – hell yes! He is HOT! Thank you IMS!

  2. Well George looks like he’s off to Canterbury so you’ll need to purchase some plane tickets as Hawke’s Bay play them down there this year.

  3. Oh well everyone involved did give it their best shot!
IMS Payroll managing director Kevin Atkinson is disappointed that Hawke’s Bay locals will not get to see Sonny Bill Williams play for the Magpies this season.
Mr Atkinson put together a lucrative package to support Hawke’s Bay Union’s late bid for Williams and had plans to use the star player as an IMS Payroll Ambassador.
“He would have done some promotional work for IMS while I was also keen for him to front some regional campaigns including Hawke’s Bay’s bid to secure a velodrome at the Regional Sports Park.
“It’s a real pity that we could not lure him here. The offer was outstanding and the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union and IMS Payroll did all it could,” Mr Atkinson said.
IMS Payroll has been a major sponsor of Hawke’s Bay Rugby for five years, a G9 provincial rugby sponsor and has a long established supporter of other provincial sports including sponsoring the Hawks basketball team.
Mr Atkinson is also a current Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union board member.

Hmmmm call me a cynic but he doesn’t have the best record for loyalty and to him its all about the game – yeah right? HB Rugby are doing a fantatsic job and just maybe it’s fate and they will not have to cope with the possible dramas and fallout – did I mention money and expense?

  7. Yes, do we want a team of stars or a star team?

  8. Not only would his signing had been a great coup for HB but our attempt to sign him has probably been more effective in raising the profile of the region than any of VHB’s latest tourism campaigns…

  9. Yeah I reckon the Magpies have been going along quite nicely without throwing someone like SBW into the mix. He needs superstars around him to keep him in check and I agree with the star team (although we do have a couple of stars coming through).

Now Napier City Rovers trying to get their hands back on Mark Paston thats a different story.
