I don't know about you but at 6:55 most nights I get a little upset when I see this on the tele ...

It must have been 2 or 3 years ago when Tauranga made it to the big time and got inserted between Hamilton and Wellington on the big city run through. Now I have nothing against Tauranga, but WTF!
Looking at Wikipedia, Napier and Hastings is bigger than Tauranga.
Now maybe they look at Napier and Hastings separately, but Tauranga hardly has its hands clean with that two city Tauranga and the Mount thing going on. They may have even snuck in Te Puke. No doubt someone at Tauranga did a great job getting reclassified.
Surely this is a wrong that must be righted!

Well let’s do something Rod, let’s organise an email campaign to someone in TVOne news.
Let’s get out a proper news release and get thousands to email the head of TV1 news on a certain Monday (best day).
How about asking Mogul to organise a “Weather Hastings ~ Napier is important?” Make us a banner Mogul. How about a map of New Zealand with Hawke’s bay Missing?
Let’s get the Mayors in on this; Napier has just spent $10K on a web cam that TV1 weather seems to be snubbing.
Let’s turn off TV1 weather until they play ball and let’s email their sponsors!
And what about TV3, perhaps they will be the first to find out “weather Hastings ~ Napier is important?”

Thanks for bring this up, it’s been a pet peeve of mine for a while.
I don’t think it is a purely population based decision however, and perhaps one of the influential factors is how many people visit Tauranga?
Napier/Hastings would certainly look a heck of lot more interesting with adding in Falxmere, Havelock, Taradale, and Bay View in the city’s flyover.

Rod I feel your pain…as a Hawke’s Bay boy born and bred (but domiciled in Auckland for the past 15 years) I’m also frustrated by the weather map snub.
However I can’t help but think it’s because of the bay’s separation of TLA’s, the resultant city parochialism and insistence on co-branding. I.e. Hastings AND Napier (or vice versa)
The Auckland region consists of seven TLA’s (well it does right now, but not for much longer) and four of these (Auckland, Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere cities) are all larger in population than Hawke’s Bay, however they are only recognised as Auckland.
Maybe if we built a strong regional brand, rather than city vs. city we’d get ourselves on the map……be that weather, tourism or economic.

Odd isn’t it, especially since HB regularly has the highest national temp.

What happened to the TV1 weather web cam for Napier? That’s what I ‘d like to know.
It only lasted a couple of nights on the evening news a month or two ago then it vanished; last seen on TV1′s Breakfast show.

Check out http://www.havelocknorthrugby.co.nz and on facebook search Havelock North Rugby Club. I would to see the Village go worldwide. The Villages rugby club has players from USA, Wales, Japan, Ireland, England also 5 Magpies, ex All Blacks Danny Lee, Bryn Evans and a junior rugby that boost 32 teams from 4yr to 12yr olds. See our website as Havelock North Rugby is 116yrs old & still strong.
