Pay as you go Broadband in Hastings

By steve evans, September 6th, 2010

Morning Fruitbowlers

I'm up for renewal on my $550+ annual vodafone bill for having a vodem for internet access when working off-site & can't help but think there must be a better/cheaper option.

Do any of you know of good pay-as-you-go options for strong wireless broadband coonections in Hastings? & if so, please provide contact details.

Thanks - Steve

Sorry I can’t be more helpful than lend my voice to your cause – I think the little 30 day bandwdith validity deal that the mobile players have is a complete swindle, if you pay for something surely you should be given a reasonable amount of time to utilise it?

Maybe Airnet can be convinced that WiMax is a valid solution for the Bay?

  2. Get an iPhone!

With Vodafone the iPhone plan has an inbult data allowance which is quite generous and then “tether” you iPhone to the laptop. Your iPhone then becomes your web access for the laptop via 3G. With Windows 7 it was as easy as plugging in the USB cable and it was connected. It can be tethered via bluetooth as well.

  3. Hi Steve,

Data is expensive, if its only ocasional use you might be better with an iphone or android phone with hspu support.

HTC make the Nexus one, it can be used as a mini hotspot which makes tethering simple. Print to any wireless printer as well.

Come to the unison expo and find the naked lady, ill be able to show you the nexus and iphone4

    Thanks,

    Ben

  4. I agree with PT. Tethering with an iPhone is brilliant. You’ll never need a vodem or T-stick again.

The other option is XT prepaid – nationwide 3G coverage everywhere you have an XT voice connection….check out the difference in coverage on Geekzone – http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/7337

Call into your local Orb or leading Edge store, or post back and i can get someone to call you

    Cheers, Leisa

I just got rid of my vodem and am now tethering my iPhone. It’s actually much faster than my vodem was.

  7. Looks like I’m buying an i-phone then…………………….

Many thanks for all your thougts & advice & I’ll see you at the expo Ben
