Hawkes Bay – 22 December 2009:

Last minute accommodation website Ezibed.com is reporting heavy website demand in the lead up to the traditional kiwi holiday period starting 26 December, but there is a lack of availability for customers between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day the website reports.

The New Zealand owned accommodation booking website is experiencing an increase in demand in comparison to December 2008 however the company says that there is less accommodation for customers to book between Christmas and the New Year due to accommodation operators throughout the country being so heavily booked.

Managing Director of Ezibed.com Gareth Pearce says that it’s great to see accommodation operators experiencing heavy demand over the holiday break.

“It’s been a rough year for many people in New Zealand including the tourism sector. I think we are all just looking forward to relaxing with friends and family and getting away for a well deserved break. Many people just want to leave 2009 behind us, and look forward to what 2010 may bring. This includes those within the tourism sector”.

Areas that the company says are experiencing heavy demand, include the traditional holiday spots of Tauranga, Gisborne, Taupo, Queenstown and Auckland.

Although demand is strong the week after Christmas, availability opens up again on the website early in January.

“Customers will once again be able to grab a deal on their last minute accommodation bookings from about the 5th of January once the first wave of holiday makers head home. The deals listed on Ezibed.com by accommodation operators will be enticing to those people looking for a January holiday bargain”, says Mr Pearce.

“Because Ezibed.com shows 28 days of availability customers can nearly search right through to the end of January”.

Ezibed.com makes available over 22,000 rooms to book over a last minute booking window of 28 days and provides customers with the ability to book with instant confirmation and post online reviews about their stay.
