Interesting article in this morning Dominion Post, http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/6307884/Another-council-boss-pockets-huge-pay-rise, about Kapiti District Council's CEO's new salary increase which I actually have no issue with. They go on to list salaries of the CEO"s throughout the lower North Island, although two councils never returned phone calls or responded, Napier City Council and the Hawke's Bay Regional Council.

Oh, thoroughly!
I read this article from Stuff the other day:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/6297634/Marryatt-must-go-Carter
And was struck by the similarities with what is reported to be happening in Christchurch and what appears to be happening more and more at a local level. The council CEO and Mayor would appear to become BFF’s, team up and make all the big decisions and proclamations without consultation with their employers (the public) or their suspiciously quiet elected councillors.
This is not an issue that amalgamation would fix. It could make it far, far worse potentially – a smaller group with greater power doing what they wany, how they want. I believe the term “regime change” could be more appropriate.
