Ahuriri Businesses Join In Earth Hour

By Fruitbowl, March 26th, 2010

A number of Ahuriri restaurants in Napier will be dimming the lights for Earth Hour on Saturday 27 March between 8.30 and 9.30pm. Patrons can enjoy a social night out or dinner by candle light during the Earth Hour time.

The Ahuriri businesses that have come on board are Shed 2 / Caution, The Gin Trap, Milk and Honey, Provedore, Master of India, Deanos Bar and Grill, Fox on the Quay and Sri Thai. People who want to enjoy this event in Napier are encouraged to go to Ahuriri, although Milk and Honey is fully booked already! In Hastings, Vidal Estate restaurant will dim lights and offer dinner by candle light.

“It’s great to see so many local businesses voluntarily taking part in this special global event, and although they still need to have some light to cook by and to ensure customer safely, they will dim their lights or have candlelight and make it a fun and special night out for patrons,” says Rachel Thomas, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s Earth Hour coordinator.

Hawke’s Bay’s big Earth Hour event will be at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House Plaza in Hastings from 7pm, with the crowd enjoying entertainment up until and through the hour of darkness.

Attendees can expect acoustics music, African and Brazilian drumming and then after the big countdown spine-tingling performances from Hastings Boys’ High School kapa haka group, Wesley Church Samoan Choir, fire dancing and a bagpiper.

Sponsored by Hastings District Council, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, Unison, MoreFM and Hawke’s Bay Opera House, this event promises to be one the whole family can enjoy, with a FREE sausage sizzle and burgers for a gold coin donation on offer.

The Opera House will also have their bar open from 7pm.

The event will also have stalls to raise awareness of climate change issues and inspire people with ways to change their energy use habits.
