Traveling a lot I'm always looking out for new music. There's nothing better than finding a band you've never heard before that quickly becomes high rotation on the iPod.
I may be the last person in the world, but last week I stumbled onto Broken Bells. The whole album is great. Here is a couple of live performances on Letterman and Kimmel to give you a taste.
Anyone else have some recommended music most of us probably haven't heard of?

We’re listening to The Kills, Vampire Weekend, Florence and the Machine, Gorillaz, Passion Pit, The Temper Trap, Eminem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Clash (!)
15:28, 12.07.2010
Not quite up with the Clash but I am enjoying the new Groove Armada album Black Light. Or maybe a bit of D-Phazz Death by Chocolate – a 2001 release but good down tempo/jazz
16:26, 12.07.2010
Thanks Wray, Matt clearly comes from a dark place but some good stuff in your list
17:45, 12.07.2010
Just for the the record, I also like the Happy Mondays and The Pixies.
21:34, 12.07.2010
Tahuna Breaks – Black, Brown and White is on high rotation at home, it’s a damn shame they don’t have HB on their next tour schedule actually!
12:04, 29.07.2010
Gin Wigmore. Kiwi great in the making. You can follow her on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/GinWigmore travel through the States.

Wow T – you follow her US tour on Facebook – you are a big fan

Ben, that Tahuna Breaks track was great. Here’s a couple more I’ve been hammering the past week.
Two Door Cinema Club – What you know
The Hours – Ali in Jungle
Keep them coming.
19:21, 15.08.2010
My fave song of the moment is Mark Ronson – Bang Bang Bang – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzE5dS6fnFk
Heard it first on Jonathan Ross and had to buy it!
It has an awesome beat with really interesting components to it, a bit electronica, a bit ’80′s, a bit hip-hop, a bit house.
I think it rocks, I can’t get it out of my head!
12:09, 16.08.2010
Wow it seems we’re all listening to the same thing! Passion Pit, Two door cinema club, Yeah yeah yeahs, plus that Mark Ronson song is also my fave right now.
I suggest: Joy Formidable, two tracks – Austere and Whirring
09:48, 17.08.2010
in respone to Brad Cowan – your music taste is pefection! MAPS – YEAH YEAH YEAHS! Mark Ronson – BANG BANG BANG and Incubus -CLEAN.
10:45, 17.08.2010
For a bit of a New Romantics revival – Ou Est Le Swimming Pool: ‘Dance The Way I Feel’ is pretty mint too – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_M3Txktt8w

If you like a little bit of blues, soul and funk check out “Little Barrie”. They are a London-based trio – loose and groovy! http://new.music.yahoo.com/little-barrie
07:31, 18.08.2010
Hey Rod – not sure if you have discovered Blvd. Nights but they are a funky HB jazz band…you can check them out here http://www.myspace.com/blvdnightsnz

Having a fair bit of Sting I’m well impressed with this morning’s Mission announcement and through the magic of the internet managed to get my tickets at 11.55am. Not unhappy about the grog situation either – it was getting a bit a bit debauched.

Here’s a bit more of Sting for you Wray…

12:58, 19.08.2010
Glad to hear you’ve got a fair bit of Sting, Wray. But what have you got on your iPod?
19:00, 19.08.2010
Thanks to that Bang Bang Bang song my kids now sing loudly in the car in French.
08:28, 20.08.2010
By the look of that image and the surfing you must do Matt you’d probably carry a fair bit of Frankie Goes to Hollywood around on your iPod. And very good Bren.
Currently listening to the Bill Charlap Trio (Written in the Stars), and Che Fu (Navigator). Getting the feeling that I need to buy and listen to whole disks to get a real feel for the music – buying individual songs of iTunes isn’t doing it for me.

Here’s a couple of oldies that hit the iPod after watching a synth music special on oz tv
Faithless Insomnia
http://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/insomnia-monster-mix/id207180221?i=207180296
Stranglers Golden Brown http://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/golden-brown/id14553072?i=14553066
08:39, 13.09.2010
OMG – Faithless – that takes me back to the dancefloors of London… the good old days – say no more… innit geez orright?
09:59, 16.09.2010
I’ve been really enjoying The XX lately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2jmPoUK58s Theres a remix they’ve done of Florence and the Machine called ‘You’ve Got the Love a remix of an early dance floor classic which is here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1l4pDXbkic – the sinking bassline and harp like strings are pretty cool !
Then there’s a group called The Big Pink, though I only really like this track. The machination of the grunge like guitar is beautifully tough if you like… not normally one for agressive rock but to me this is not that but takes the best part of that harder rock and rolls out a cool tune – vocals are amusing… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGnNlQ-KNv4
Thats me for now
11:04, 17.09.2010
Thanks Brad, downloaded The XX. Nice!
13:22, 17.09.2010
Popnoname – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r8ewUl8ffc
Gui Boratto remix of Massive Attack here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p_MvePxC4w
Gui Boratto remix of Bomb the Bass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWRgqDcXmQI – the vocals are stunning and overall mood of this track is hauntingly beautiful ..enjoy.
16:48, 25.09.2010
Couple of nice grooves …
JayWalk J-Walk French Letter and Soul Vibration
19:15, 25.09.2010
Some smooth summer sounds there, they remind me of Benobo with songs like The Sicillian, Gypsy, The Plug and Terrapin. They have got that old French House feel about them..
22:53, 01.10.2010
Love that Bonobo. Thanks.
This weeks treats found are a Human League sounding LCD Soundsystem with Someone great and The Submarines Modern Invention.
13:00, 04.10.2010
Chico Sonido Bikinis y Rock
14:55, 04.10.2010
I suspect Matt also has some Too Live Crew and Violent Femmes hanging around too with that lineup.
Dave Gilmour is always a pleasure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6xtSbGBydM
The Black Seeds are a fair favourite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEkvMR2Zjqo&feature=related
And most of what Matt has and a lot of Cafe sounds, Cafe’ d’Afrique, Cafe del Mar, and the Gotan Project http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TU7ruN3XUU

My current iPod favourite is the album Evermore from New Zealand rock band Evermore, released in March this year. Though Australia has claimed them (as usual) two of the three Hume brothers who make up the band were born in Fielding, and they have Hawke’s Bay connections. http://www.muzic.net.nz/artists/58
My favourite tracks are two of the older ones “Running” listen to it on http://t.co/kFCM8ev and “Light Surrounding You” listen to it on http://t.co/T83iYER
13:45, 21.10.2010
@Rod – agree they were the better tracks on the JayWalk options… also liked the ‘Cariad’ track too. I used to play ‘Soul Vibration’ when I’d do a low key gig.. Being an eighties teen has meant lately I can’t stop listening to Miike Snow – his music is a combo of eighties, glam vocals and electronica of the interesting variety. Add to this outstanding lyrics and I’m sold! Animal:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLHjKgQt39s and this one always seems to generate a decent emotive response.. Burial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAUxIOc0d0I&feature=related
And one just in case you’re not convinced:

Nice song from Warpaint that’s been on high rotation today … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMkqbY0oGKQ

My fave of the moment The Black Keys ‘Next Girl’ – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_PrT25o8Vs
13:01, 30.11.2010
Nice tracks… The Black Keys are great – I really like ‘Tighten Up” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flkByutsgTg
Warpain and Nigel Sanford were pretty cruisy … Nigel Stanford really took me back to a track from many moons ago “We came in peace”.
So I stumbled accross this track last week and it’s got the catchiest chorus I’ve heard in awhile.. and it’s fun and quirky which is always a good thing: Vampire Weekend – Blakes Got a New Face http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAqUNJGKjCQ
Last but not least, have been checking out Plan B album and this tracks kinda nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isG-k1NJcu0

Fave song of the moment – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oI27uSzxNQ
