Training and Fitness

By Ben Deller, March 11th, 2010

With the Triple Peaks this weekend and the Tremains Triathlon next weekend, I have witnessed an army of people running around the hills and valleys of Hawkes Bay at some simply insane hours of the day (morning).

The wife and I have recently taken to “doing the goat track” trek up Te Mata Peak lead by my (much fitter) cousin Mandy.
The views afforded first thing in the morning up there are simply stunning (especially when the fog is this thick) We start from the Tauroa carpark and get to the peak in around 50mins, how does that compare?

What sort of training have you been up to recently and where?

  1. Dont forget, there is only one more day to enter your team for the Tremains Triathlon this weekend!

I wish I’d had more early morning runs. My calves (is that the right plural or is it a group of small bovines?) and thighs haven’t been the same since Te Mata peak on Saturday.

  3. I’ve been on my bike every day on the way to work for the last six months – it’s great to see a surge of like-minded people hitting the roads! Be interesting to see how many of them keep it up once the rain hits!

Also I’ve done a couple of weekend rides in the 10-15km range… not quite the 20km I’m due to do in the Tremains Tri this weekend, but hey! I did it last year and I was about 10kg heavier and I hadn’t ridden my bike in about 2 years prior to that!

  4. A friend of mine is looking for a Tremains Tri team that needs a cyclist, she is fit and able. Call me at Airnet and I will pass you her contact details.
