Let’s get behind Cranford
Well what a bombshell in the announcement of the temporary closure of beds at Cranford Hospice. The most loved facility in Hawkes Bay will no longer be the sanctuary for those leaving us and their loved ones. I am sorry, but there is no way that the Hospital can replicate this restful caring environment.
I have read the report and there are a lot of issues to be resolved. Many people will have various views on what is wrong here. The decision to temporarily close has not been taken lightly but all those involved have some responsibility.
I am proud of Cranford and I am greatly saddened by its current situation. It gets nearly 1 million dollars of donations each year from us. So let’s quickly fix it, restore the confidence, make the changes and move on. I am going to do all I can to make sure that this closure is indeed temporary. Six months cannot be allowed to become a year etc. So let’s all get behind supporting Cranford. At the moment it needs us.

Totally agree Lawrence, it will be really important for Cranford to implement an extensive communications strategy that keeps its loyal supporters in touch with what is happening on a regular basis. This has been a serious blow to a charitable brand but with correct positioning and extensive ongoing information, supporters should remain sympathetic and understand that occasionally this kind of thing happens. The brand will need to draw deeply on its tremendous goodwill.

Grey Power Hastings & Districts is very concerned at the Cranford debacle. Our members who attended our last Members’ meeting and the Committee are whole-heartedly behind a public meeting.
Cranford as we knew it is being torn apart. We want our Cottage Hospice back we are not great fans of a shiny Palliative Care Unit. We have management, buildings and equipment and no staff. This is ludicrous. People are seriously querying the use of their time and donations by management at Cranford. We understand that quantites of home made food will be wasted during the time the patients are moved to the Regional Hospital.

Great Lawrence to get your whole hearted support for Cranford.
As a member of thepublic I am struggling to get my head around how the management status could become so toxic as to have the DHB close Cranford and move patients into the hospital? Who pays the DHB for these services? Does the DHB have access to the funds raised – where are the funds who is managing the money?? If the ‘people aspect of the operation has been so badly managed as reported where is the money would be my next question? How are Board members elected is it a shoulder tapping exercise? Are there any nurses on the Board? Please tell us what we need to do to ensure Cranford reopens ASAP.
