Is Sam Kelt a bad boy?

By Damon, October 28th, 2009

Local businessman Sam Kelt has hit the news again. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/3004385/Hawkes-Bay-millionaire-charged-over-boy-racer-incident

Is Sam the pin up bad boy of Hawke's Bay or is he getting unjustified bad publicity?

We have to acknowledge many of the good things he's done for the region -  many of which are high profile such as the Horse of the Year, the Kelt Capital and helping the Magpies get to where they are. Although he's no longer involved in the regional sport park - he did have a vision for it and it's now coming to fruition.

I also think there are a lot of the good things that he does that are not publicised and it's a shame that the bad things get the coverage like in today's Dom Post.

I don't think what he's done deserves to be on the front page of a national paper - is he that much of a celebrity?

  1. I’ll have a conversation with myself – just read the HBT article and good on Sam Kelt him for standing up to the bogans. A while ago I was running around the roads of Havelock around 6pm and on five occassions boy racers passed me at extreme high speeds. This was in residentail streets and my only thought was if a child went out on to the street.
Boy racers have got to go and there has to be a quick and easier way to dob their ass in!

  2. Forgive me for being bluntly honest, but I’ve only dealt with Mr. Kelt one-on-one from a customer service point of view where he was the customer (I won’t say where) and I was the faeces that lined the bottom of his boot – least ways that’s how he made us “small” people feel.

He’s been in the media more times than I care to count since I “served” him for issues like this. As far as I can figure (and this is pure personal opinion) the “assault” that left him in the state that he’s in was bound to have started with him being the arrogant tosser I know and *cough* love. Add that to THIS episode, as well as hitting a kid on a bike in an unwarranted car (http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/national/2964693/Millionaire-fined-for-knocking-boy-off-bike) and causing a ruccus at Diva (http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/hawkes-bay/2532038/No-assault-conviction-for-Sam-Kelt)… Well you get my point, and as far as I’m concerned there is no smoke without fire.

Don’t get me wrong, I applaud the guy for the work that he is doing in the community, and from what I hear he’s a top notch bloke if you need a hand with fund raising etc, but if I were him I’d want to sort out my public persona quick smart.

  3. BOY RACES – They are out there!!!
Watch out if you are travelling back towards Havelock on Friday nights between 10.30pm – 11pm on Te Mata Mangateretere Road.
I think this happens every Friday night, well I see this each night I’m home….. Starts with a loud vroom, vroom, vroom and seriously there would be between 20 – 40 cars that obviously drive the back of the Tuki and then along Te Mangateretere Road.
We can see out our windows of our house, watching them passing each other, which sends shivers down my back – thinking of that innocent family or person travelling back home only to be greeted by these idiots.
    Be careful!!!!
I think a speed camera each Friday night on the TM road would be a start!!
