  1. That’s given me three more places to try over the next couple of weeks.

  2. And do you have any more to add to the list?

  3. For a place to chill out and bring the kids and meet up with friends nothing will beat off the Beaten Track this summer – Harvey Lorcks.

  4. What a great website! well done to all that have got on and done this. It will be a fantastic resource for HB. The main thing that i’m rapt about it – is that it’s HB not Napier and not Hastings! We are one!

  5. Cool, thanks Anna! Haven’t been to “Off the Beaten Track” yet, so good tip. And thanks D – we think it’s going to rock too!

  6. Who has been to the Loading Ramp of late? My friend Darryl Schlierike is the executive chef and his ‘Cheeky Little Prick’ creation made it all the way to the finals, held in Wellington a few weeks back. This was a dish that had to be made with ingredients sourced locally. It was with kina so that is kind of courageous right there if you ask me.

  7. We were are Craggy Range last night and suprised to be one of two tables for dinner. There was more staff than guests……

  8. Crab Farm Winery!

Great food, exceptional wine relaxed atmosphere at realistic prices with a massive log fire and outdoor spaces.

One of Hawke’s Bays best kept secrets!

  9. We’ve been dining at Three Doors Up on 3 Waghorne Street, Ahuriri a few times recently. $70-$90 for a meal for two, unpretentious and the current Hawke’s Bay Signature dish, their Risotto is awesome. Highly recommended.

St Georges is always interesting, take your own atmosphere though as it can be very quiet at times.

  11. Do try Three Doors Up in Waghorne Street. Recently nominated for three awards in the Signature Dish competition run by Food Hawkes Bay. It is a fabulous concept as it incorporates all suppliers and producers – wineries and restaurants and each dish must contain a minimum of four ingredients from the Hawkes Bay and matched with a Hawkes Bay Wine. They were the only restaurant to receive two awards – Joanne Long (chef) was voted Runner Up for her Risotto Dish and the lovely Anj Penrose and Johan received first place for service.

Three Doors Up is lovely – comfortable “French Bistro’ setting and the kindest, loveliest service (we were moved to a cosier table on a windy wet night with no fuss – so appreciated!)
I can recommend the risotto – to the extent I had it 2 nights in a row. It was not planned that way! but a Police cordon left my friend homeless so a good excuse for a nice dinner in a great little corner of Napier!

  13. Thank you. I will go to Hawke’s Bays tomorrow.
