In the interests of sharing the talents of local people, here's a cake maker you just can't go past... http://cakesbystaceyjohnson.com/Welcome.html

Stacey had a daughter at the same pre-school that my wife Kirsty teaches at, and if you take a look at the Celebrations page you can see almost half way down on the left my birthday cake that Kirsty commissioned for last year. It's a cake replica of my ACTUAL laptop, with a book I really own (just ask Matt!) and a screenshot of my actual desktop at the time. I've never seen anything like it and I was TOTALLY speechless.

The Dory beneath the laptop was one me and the folks at Farmlands got made when Hamish left to return to Wray and his pals at Need-a-Nerd.

That is a mint cake - does the lady of the house bake for mothers who are completely incompetent bakers?
Recently I got an email from a client who has come across a master cake baker on Trademe - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Party-festive-supplies/Kids-parties/Other/auction-282998629.htm

I saw the title and immediately thought publishing but hey, a cute cake works for me too! Thank goodness my days of artful decoration are almost over. That said, I'll never forget that first teddy bear b'day cake I attempted and the icing wouldn't stick to the sides. I've learned a few little tricks since then. A cool alien cake with half avocados for eyes, a black and yellow smiley face that totally upset all the Napier hill mums because the kids came home with black teeth, clothes, hair... thankfully my no-fail, beat-the-hell-out-of-it-for-three-minutes chocolate cake smothered in lollies or strawberries can work wonders on most occasions!
