Did you see the DomPost this week? Sam Morgan, the founder of Trade Me, has been quoted saying that he pays “no tax” although he sold Trade Me to Fairfax for $700 million and now is making a hefty salary through director’s fees on various boards.
Now if you thought, “gee, I’d like to know more about tax” then you should consider one of the EIT Accounting programmes.
There is a good range for you to consider – and it depends on your past qualifications, and your accounting aspirations.
If you want to meet the membership requirements to join NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants then you’d study the Bachelor of Business Studies, a three year degree programme, and then you’d progress onto the one year Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting
The Graduate Diploma in Business provides people who already hold a degree the opportunity to study accounting at a high level for one year full-time.
Or if you are thinking that you’d like to be an Accounting Technician, then the two-year New Zealand Diploma in Business, could be just what you’re looking for.
All of these can be studied part-time too.

Excellent idea Brenda but you have missed out the bit saying whether once the EIT qualification is in hand that we will be able to avoid tax altogether – I would so be tempted. This time next year I venture to suggest that the IRD ( spoil sports) will have changed Sam’s tax status following all the media hype around his statement – they probably have a department working on it now!!
No tax it would be a lovely problem to have …………..( eyes closed dreamy expression on face)
Good smiley moment for this time of the day thanks now must get back to my real job of generating taxes!!

Well I wouldn’t want to over promise and under deliver Adrienne so I guess you’re right – better keep working and generating those taxes….me too!
