EIT carpentry tutors and local builders have put their muscle into helping a “very brave” Napier youngster battling an aggressive form of leukaemia.
Six year-old Jessica Hermansen has been in Starship Hospital since being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at Christmas.
Her mum,Joanna Monteith, and dad, Lorne Hermansen, have given up their jobs to be with their daughter as she undergoes aggressive chemotherapy.
Jessica’s immune system will be at a low ebb when the family, including Jessica’s four-year-old brother, return to Hawke’s Bay.
Keen to show their support in a practical way, the Hawke’s Bay Certified Builders offered to boost the insulation in the family’s Maraenui home.
Thanks to 7 of our EIT tutors and 13 local certified builders who gave up regular work to help this family. And thanks to Lans Hassleman, the president of Hawke's Bay Certified Builders, for organising the team and sponsors.
What a great community we have in Hawke’s Bay!
