Training and Fitness

By Ben Deller, March 11th, 2010

With the Triple Peaks this weekend and the Tremains Triathlon next weekend, I have witnessed an army of people running around the hills and valleys of Hawkes Bay at some simply insane hours of the day (morning). The wife and I have recently taken to “doing the goat track” trek up Te Mata Peak lead by my (much fitter) cousin Mandy. The views afforded first thing in the morning ...Read more

One year in

By Rod Drury, February 7th, 2010

With school starting last week we’re heading into our second year in the Bay. When we first thought about moving back here we did hear a few stereotypes.  It would be hard to meet people, Diva was overrun by cougars, and we’d get bored ‘up there’. As we have young kids a late night out is not arriving at Pipi’s for the 4:30 opening so I have no idea about the ...Read more

What I did in the holidays, part 2

By Matt Miller, January 20th, 2010

Thanks for everyone who has placed comments on my earlier post, What I did in the holidays. The comments so far indicate the emergence of some trends which may or may not set the tone for this new decade, which I don’t actually know what to call. Maybe it could be called one of these names… the teens the twenty-somethings the twenty-tens the twenty-teens the tweenties the decade ...Read more

What I did in the holidays

By Matt Miller, January 18th, 2010

Here is a list of the top 10 things I experienced in the holidays, in no particular order. We stayed in Hawke’s Bay apart from a couple of brief trips to Taupo. 1. Lunch at Elephant Hill Winery with my family. 2. Dinner at Vidals with my sister and brother-in-law. 3. Blackberry Bold. George got one for Christmas. It was brilliant until she poured fruit drink into it. Then the buttons ...Read more

Results are in

By Fruitbowl, January 10th, 2010

We’ve just heard the winners announced in one the summers most anticpated events. The Waimarama Beach Day sandcastle competition. Tension was high after last years winners the Kerrisk/Murphy’s continued their shark attack theme and took out Parents with Children under 12 category for a second year. First time entries, the Macmillan/Drury team took out the Parents with Children ...Read more

Summer toys

By Rod Drury, January 2nd, 2010

The new thing to learn this summer has been Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boarding. I’m really enjoying it and it suits the local Bay conditions really well. Here’s a couple of vids … and a view from the board that shows the footwork going on … It’s a bit like windsurfing in that you’re going the whole time and even if the waves are tiny or nonexistent you can ...Read more

Living the dream

By Hamish White, December 2nd, 2009

I always knew we were on to a good thing here in the Hawke’s Bay, but it struck me last week how we not only sometimes take it for granted but also forget to enjoy what we are living here for in the first place! Last week my wife and I (with kids in tow) thought we’d have a go at commuting into town from our bach at Waipatiki Beach – an arduous 35 minute drive no less! Apart from starting ...Read more

Movember – the results are in

By Paul Thompson, December 1st, 2009

“Mo” vember is over for another year – “yay” we hear shouted from the wives – but not before the Mo POWER team from InterSoft, FXNetworks and Lauranka managed to raise a whopping $1865.00 for the Cancer Foundation and the Mental Health Foundation of NZ. Another great effort and a big THANK YOU to all those that donated ...Read more
